Join us for an extraordinary evening in support of Aboriginal Students in the Diocese of British Columbia:
Artist News...
We are very excited to announce that internationally renowned Northwest Coast artists Chief Tony Hunt, O.B.C., and Douglas LaFortune are generously contributing to our Fine Art Auction.
Coast Salish artist Douglas LaFortune is creating an original painting for our event. For a stunning visual of this artist’s work, you can visit First Peoples House on the University of Victoria campus. The two Welcome Posts on either side of the front doors are a breathtaking example of Douglas LaFortune’s artistic carving.
Chief Tony Hunt, hereditary chief of the KwaGulth people of Fort Rupert and Kingcome Inlet, has donated the print “Raven & Sisiutl”. Chief Hunt, with his father, Chief Henry Hunt, and his grandfather, Chief Mungo Martin were the creators of Victoria’s treasured Thunderbird Park beside the Royal British Columbia Museum. Chief Hunt has been selected to receive the 2010 Order of British Columbia - a fitting award for a lifetime of extraordinary achievement.
The Bishop’s Gospel Choir is delighted to be fundraising for this unique project:
The Bishop’s Gospel Choir of British Columbia’s Aboriginal Bursary.
This bursary will be applicable to Aboriginal students throughout the Diocese of British Columbia. Whether the Aboriginal applicant wishes to pursue an academic degree at a post-secondary institution, enrol for a trades program, or learn the skills of a traditional art, they will be able to apply for funds from the bursary once a sustainable principle balance has been raised.
It is hoped that applications for the first bursary awards will be available in the spring of 2012. Application criteria for this bursary will be similar to the criteria for the First Nations Computer Technology Fund.

“If our students struggle through their childhood to get to the point where they can go on to advanced training, advanced education, and then find that the resources aren’t there for them to move on, the tragedy is so painful we simply cannot allow it to happen” (National Aboriginal Achievement Foundation. No Higher Priority: Aboriginal Post-Secondary Education in Canada, 2007)
We would like to extend a very special thank you to the following for their generous support of this Aboriginal Bursary:
